Strain Profile

Gelatti

Gelatti, as its name suggests, descends from the almighty Gelato. Gelatti was bred by Cookies from Gelato and Biscotti. It boasts a bold menthol aroma and a balanced high that relaxes the body while uplifting the mind. History of the Gelatti Cannabis Strain Gelatti was created by the Cookies brand from a cross of Gelato and Biscotti (see Genetic Lineage of Gelatti for more info). Since its official launch in 2012, Cookies has dominated the US cannabis scene with its top-shelf flower and unique lifestyle products. Dating back to the early 2000s, Cookies (then known as The Cookies Fam) started out as a collective of growers working together to push cannabis genetics as far as possible. While the brand's main frontman is rapper Berner, the Cookies brand has also incorporated breeders like Jigga (creator of GSC), Mario "Sherbinski" Guzman (creator of Sherbet and Gelato), Kenny "PieGuy" Dumets (creator of several famous Pie cuts), and more. Genetic Lineage of Gelatti Gelatti is a direct descendant of Biscotti and Gelato strains. Below, we'll take a look at both of these strains, their traits, and how they may have influenced those of Gelatti. Gelatti's first parent is the almighty Gelato. Today, Gelato is a staple at Cookies dispensaries across the US and also available in seed form from a variety of seed banks. However, the strain's origins date back to 2014, when breeder and founder of Sherbinskis, Mario Guzman, decided to cross his iconic Sunset Sherbet with Thin Mint Cookies—a special GSC cut with a fresh, earthy mint aroma. After crossing these two titans of modern weed and hunting through hundreds of different phenos, Guzman stabilized several Gelato varieties, the most famous of which is Gelato #41, according to the Sherbinskis brand. Gelato strains are known to produce high THC levels and a rich mix of terpenes that combine to give the strain its characteristic sweet aroma with minty, earthy, and vanilla highlights. Gelato buds typically boast dense clusters of fat, green calyxes with purple tips and bright orange pistils—traits that all shine through in Gelatti, along with the minty aroma that characterizes the whole Gelato genetic line. Gelatti's second parent is Biscotti (also known as OG Biscotti), which combines genetics from Gelato #25 (an unreleased Gelato phenotype) and South Florida OG (which derives from Chemdog and a mix of Lemon Thai and Hindu Kush). The result is a potent indica-dominant cross that's known to produce a strong, creative, and relaxing buzz from head to toe. Bred by Cookies, Biscotti boasts a delicious aroma of sweet, earthy cookies with hints of potent, gassy fuel. Biscotti is known to produce tight, pine tree-shaped buds with dense clusters of calyxes and a thick layer of frosty trichomes. In general, Biscotti flowers are a vibrant green color with bright orange strands of pistils, though some varieties may also turn purple. Biscotti's sweetness and hints of gas shine through in Gelatti, as do the fruity terps of Gelato and the strong bud structure of both parents. Physical Characteristics of Gelatti Cookies holds a tight grip on all of its strains, and the same is true with Gelatti. The original Gelatti strain bred and sold by Cookies isn't available in seed or clone form, hence little is known about the physical traits of these plants. Dried and trimmed Gelatti buds from Cookies, however, typically boast a dense structure, a pine tree shape, and a vibrant palette of colors, combining shades of bright and dark green with rich purple hues and fiery pistils. Other breeders, such as SinCity and Bulk Seeds, have created their own Gelatti varieties that can be bought in seed form and grown at home. These varieties, however, may vary considerably from the original Gelatti created by Cookies. Properties and Effects of Gelatti Gelatti is a high-potency strain, regularly packing 20% THC or more. It is also rich in a variety of terpenes, including caryophyllene, limonene, and linalool. Combined, these terps give Gelatti a strong aroma that's menthol-forward with some underlying OG musk and hints of sweet fruit and gas. Gelatti's flavor is similar to its smell, with a fresh hit of menthol coupled with floral undertones and light fuel notes on the inhale, followed by a slightly sweet exhale. Given its high concentration of terpenes and THC, Gelatti produces a powerful effect that tends to creep up on most users. After a few hits, expect to feel an uplifting, positive high settle in right behind your eyes. Soon after, you'll likely feel Gelatti's effects in your body, releasing physical tension and soreness, though without necessarily causing sluggishness or couch-lock (though this depends on your dose and tolerance). Both new and experienced cannabis users report enjoying Gelatti's effects—some report using the strain during the day and basking in its uplifting mental euphoria, while others prefer reserving it for the later portions of the day when...
