Strain Profile

Gainesville Green

Gainesville Green is historically significant as one of the first documented American cannabis hybrids. Created by Rick Naya in Gainesville, Florida circa 1974-75 from Colombian Gold (seeds recovered in Florida) crossed with Maui Wowie. Named by Bobby Bullard. The F1 hybrid displayed unprecedented trichome production and a pine/lemon/gas terpene profile that had never existed before in cannabis. Seeds traveled from Florida to Washington state via the Sims Brothers in 1975, where they reached Sam "Skunkman" Watson and Neville Schoenmaker. Rick Naya claims these genetics were crossed with Afghani, producing both Northern Lights and Skunk #1 — making Gainesville Green an ancestor to the majority of modern cannabis hybrids. Phylos Bioscience genetic sequencing placed Gainesville Green as one of the earliest points on the hybrid spectrum between Indica and Sativa clusters.
